AVOID

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID - SCAMMERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ELDERLY- carried out my Will with simplar law and power of attorney, i have arranged for my house to be put in trust for my daughter, i have since found out on my documents simplar law and their trustees are now beneficiaries on my will, same with power of attorney, also my house is not left to my daughter it goes to simplar law trustees, so see cannot sell or do anything with my house when i am gone, she has to contact the trustees to ask permission and they take a percentage of the sale. I have been to see a solicitor and they have been advised this is not the first case they have with this company and many others are poping up that are not governerned by the goverment, and that wills and power of attorney are not legal and sent through the government, so not worth the paper they are wrote on, i have been advised to cancel my monthly payment with simplar law and there trustees to which i have with my bank and they have advised that the company has taken payment via various methods and my bank and now looking into fraud with this company, i have paid nearly £4000 for nothing. Now having to pay solicitor to get me out of this mess, re do my affairs and see what monies we can get back- this company lie and tell you what you want to hear, then when it comes to it they put there name down on everything..... I am now taking simlar law to court and also they have been reported to the police for fraud and the financial ombudsmans to try and stop these scam companies.

Dear Ruby Carter, we are shocked and saddened by your libellous and wildly inaccurate review. We would have liked to reach out to discuss your unfounded allegations but can find no client of your name in our system. You have also refused the request for contact details we made via Trustpilot. Under no circumstances do we ever make ourselves the beneficiary of a client’s Will. This is highly unethical and something we never have and never will do. Equally, we never give ourselves Power of Attorney over any of our clients.
Beneficiaries are the loved ones our clients choose to leave their estate too, while the role of an Attorney is responsibility only given to a trusted friend or family member.
You mention Trustees in your post, and one of our sister companies are often professional trustees for families to add the extra legal protection of being a limited company and legal knowledge. As professional trustees they never benefit from a Trust and instead work to increasing its value for the benefit of the beneficiaries. While it is true that beneficiaries would have to work with the professional trustees to arrange the sale of the property held in trust it is a lie that they would benefit from such a transaction. This never happens and never will.
You are correct that there is no regulation in the Will writing industry the views you make are widely off the mark. The documents we write are legally binding once signed and witnessed correctly and offer protection to the families of our clients. We have previously petitioned the Government to regulate the industry and were ignored, an event which inspired our Customer Care Charter https://www.simplerlaw.co.uk/customer-care-charter You also mention Lasting Powers of Attorney. We give all our clients the choice of registering theirs with the Government themselves, or we provide a service to do this for them. All the documents we prepare are successfully registered by the Government. We strongly advice clients to have us register their LPAs, if they choose not to then we cannot be held responsible.
Our fees are highly competitive and noticeably cheaper than those of high street solicitors who are quite often not experts in this area of law. The figures you quote are for a Family Trust a complex and powerful document which protects the family estate during life as well as after passing away. We do not simply prepare one of these without the full ‘buy in’ of the client. Our documents are professionally written and provide powerful legal protection. We have a £5M indemnity policy which we are proud to state that we have never had to use.
For readers of this review, it is worth noting that we have not been approached by the financial ombudsman nor the police nor the courts. With this in mind we believe that this review is fake.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!

£6,000 for a Will that puts property in trust is extortionate surely? This is what Simpler Law charged my parents. For a Will priced at £129 initially, this increased to over £6,000 during the phonecall to discuss their Wills. Not only that, but they were to be charged an additional £25 per month for the duration of the Will! How can this be allowed to happen? My father felt rushed over the phone and gave his card details, which were immediately used and by the next working day, the money had gone from his account. Once he had time to think about it, he called to advise he had changed his mind and did not want to go ahead. Suddenly, the amount dropped down to £1700! Really? How can they charge £6,000 in one phone call and immediately drop it to £1700 in the next? My father was adamant he wanted to cancel and the money was a good three weeks in coming back to him. Not so quick to refund as they are to take! My advice - avoid this company at all costs. My parents have since sought legal advice elsewhere and everything is being done at a very reasonable £1200, for exactly the same product as this company quoted for with no extra monthly amounts payable. Disgusting company!
Update - reply to the comments of Simpler Law.
They are not wild allegations and my parents were, briefly, clients of yours. I reached out to Trust Pilot to ask how to provide documentation to yourselves as at no point during the process, were my parents given any reference from you so I was unable to complete the form that was sent, as it would not allow me to attach any documentation without a reference. Please do not call me a liar, the firm of solicitors my parents have since seen, have offered exactly the same as you for £1200, with no additional monthly fees. As for my parents taking advantage of a credit facility which is why it took so long to refund the money, is not the case. They were asked for their card details over the phone so there was no reason for the refund to take well over three weeks to come back to them. I stand by everything I have written and not being able to provide a reference does not make any of this untrue.

Reply from Simpler Law

Dear Jane, we are concerned by the emotive and inaccurate review you have left. Obviously, you are not a client of ours and despite our reaching out to you via Trustpilot for contact information we have no way of identifying your parents to prepare a considered reply to your wild accusations.
From what we can gather from your description is appears that your parents purchased a family and estate mirror Will and during their detailed consultation we discovered that they would benefit from a living trust known as a Family Trust. This is something which places properties and other assets into Trust immediately, while the owners are still alive, adding additional protections. For example, negating the requirement for Probate when the time comes.
It also appears that your parents chose to include one of our sister companies as professional Trustees, a wise move as a limited company has legal protections which individuals do not. Obviously, this is not a free service and costs more than our standard aftercare service of £8.99 per person per month.
Again, based on your post above, it looks like your parents took advantage of our 14 cooling off period to cancel their Family Trust, which is their right. As it appears we believe they have an estate which would benefit from extra protection we then suggested a Protective Property Trust, something different from a Family Trust which is only established when someone has passed away is at a different cost.
Obviously, according to your account, your parents did not wish to proceed with us any further and requested a refund. Although we have no way of confirming this, as a Family Trust was involved, it’s highly likely that your parents may have taken advantage of a credit facility which would have delayed the refund.
There is no way that a high street solicitor will provide a Family Trust for £1,200 and even then in this situation they are more likely to make themselves as individuals the professional trustees. We always work to the highest standards and ethics, following our Customer Care Charter https://www.simplerlaw.co.uk/customer-care-charter and strongly dispute your allegation that we are a ‘disgusting company’.

Sian was amazing

Sian was amazing, really thought, caring and explained everything in detail. As much time was taken to explain everything and to go through all aspects of my will, thank you so much. I would definitely recommend them
