Applied for a bank account via referral program. Was declined. Never had this happen before so inquired and was told it was because I had a bank account before which isn't true. I asked for more information and none given. I made a complaint to find out what happened and received a more generic letter with multiple reasons why bank accounts are declined. They completely ignored the previous reason I was given. I wrote back to them asking them to clarify and no response. This process also took months.

What a poor response from Starling- you did offer me a reason in writing. It states I previously had an account with you which I did not. Then your next complaint response completely disregarded this and gave vague reasons. I will be going to the ombudsman.

A friend recommended Starling a number of years ago and I decided to apply for an account, I haven’t regretted my decision in fact I now recommend Starling to my friends whether or not the live in Spain so many moths a year as I do. In my opinion they are a first rate bank you can trust.

When my bank id been with for years decided to upgrade my account, the upgrade consisted of a different name and a monthly charge, I looked for an alternative and found Starling. I have been with them for nearly a year and wish I'd changed years ago. I use their invoicing & tap to pay features which are great. The categories for income and expenditure make accounts simple and the notifications are great. And all for free. Highly recommend.

Intuitive interface. Lots of great features. The spaces feature is amazing for setting money aside for VAT, income tax etc while still seeing your total balance. Easy to search for transactions and assign receipts. Security is brilliant with face and voice recognition to perform password resets etc. Best banking app I've ever used. Absolutely destroys high street banks for customer service.

The app is so straight forward and is designed with the customer in mind. What's been particularly good was how they dealt with a recent fraud and how they followed up. I think their lower-than-rivals interest rates for savings and the lack of joint savings accounts are the only downside.

I have had an Starling account since 2019. I use it mainly whilst I am abroad. I find being able to use it for card payments without any add-on fees a great saving. The app is excellent -much better than the ones I have for another couple of bank accounts, as is the rate of interest on the money they pay me for the short term savings account. Also I have always found the customer services very good - including getting a new card to me very rapidly when I lost one whilst abroad.

The app works well and gives all the services I expect. Please don't start, as other banks do, offering me discounts or points with purchases of other products. I want a bank to stick to the knitting and provide banking services - nothing more and nothing less
