Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 164 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently express frustration with the poor communication channels, noting that it is nearly impossible to speak with a real person or get a timely response to complaints. Furthermore, many consumers deal with persistent billing issues, such as unexpected debit orders, extra charges, and accounts incorrectly treated as being in arrears despite full payments. Some people were satisfied with specific branch staff members who delivered polite, patient, and highly efficient assistance when resolving queries in person. Reviewers also occasionally praised effective technical support teams and customized plans that met their communication needs.

Avoid!!

We have been trying to cancel a contract with Vodacom for over two months, and the experience has been nothing short of disgraceful.
We were repeatedly advised to phone ********** for cancellations. Dutifully, we followed this instruction more than 20 times, sitting through endless prompts and assurances that “someone will contact you.” Not once did anyone contact us.
Today, out of pure frustration, we finally tried a different approach—selecting menu options unrelated to cancellations—just to speak to a human being. Only then did we learn the shocking truth: the cancellation system doesn’t even work. So Vodacom knowingly directs customers into a dead end, while happily continuing to deduct debit orders month after month.
At last, after endless wasted time and effort, the contract was cancelled—but now Vodacom insists that we must still give 30 days’ notice, even though the entire delay was caused by their broken system. In other words, we are forced to pay for yet another month through no fault of our own.
This isn’t just poor service—it’s corporate negligence. A company of Vodacom’s size has no excuse for such dishonesty and inefficiency. Customers should not have to play phone-menu roulette, trick the system just to speak to someone, and then be penalised financially for Vodacom’s own incompetence.
If you value your time, your money, or your sanity, avoid Vodacom at all costs.

I HATE THIS SERVICE PROVIDER.

RUDEST STAFF...INCOMPETENT STAFF...JUST USELESS.

Three rivers at riversquare is the worst....the call centers even ruder...Don't get me started...

Riversquare vodacom phoned me 2 min after I walked out the place BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET MY CONTRACT....USELESS.... I called alot to sort my debit order not going off....every month a different amount....getting admin fees charges because MY DEBIT ORDER DOESN'T GO OFF BUT THE IDIOTS HANDLING IT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO DO THEIR JOBS!!!! No one can tell me why my amounts are more per month ......every time a different story ....every time a different amount I'm paying.....MY CREDIT SCORE IS AFFECTED BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T BELONG IN THE POSITIONS THEY ARE IN...COMPITENT PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO ASSIST.

The call centre's number I eventually got by Vanderbijlpark Vodacom is so useless....Vanderbijlpark said I'll be able to change my debit order status to manually paying per month....yet....the call agent said she can't change anything....she said I'll have to wait a few months before it automatically changes.....BUT VANDERBIJLPARK SAID I NEED TO CHANGE IT....it won't automatically change duhhh any freaking debit order that I know works that way. I told Lesego that I've been paying every single month now for like 4 months that the debit order hasn't gone off correctly....EVERSINCE I GOT THE STUPID LAPTOP CONTRACT.... she said I must just wait it will cancel....and I asked HOW LONG BCZ MY CREDIT SCORE IS INFLUENCED EVERY MONTH THIS STUPID DEBIT ORDER IS NOT GOING OFF....AND EVERY TIME IT'S ADDED FEES BY VODACOM!!!!! Signed up for data, not getting data

Upgraded through one of their sales consultants who claimed I'll also be getting data with my contract. No data.

And their new AI idiot Toby just makes it more frustrating to deal with Vodacom. Been a very loyal customer for close on 30 years now, won't be renewing.

Ironically no communication from a Cell service company

Dear Vodacom,

I am writing to lodge a formal complaint regarding the extremely unprofessional handling of my recent contract upgrade.

On or around 17 September 2025, I completed a telephonic upgrade with Vodacom. Everything was confirmed. Yet when I followed up on the whereabouts of my order on 25 September 2025, I was told it had been cancelled. At no point was I informed of this. Vodacom has my email address, my physical address, and every contact number linked to my account, but I received no communication whatsoever.

I am told that Vodacom attempted to call me once more to “confirm” the upgrade, and when the line dropped, my order was cancelled. I called back three times immediately afterward and never got through to a consultant. Meanwhile, Vodacom cancelled my order without my consent or confirmation. That is unacceptable.

This is now the third time in two years that I have had major problems with Vodacom. Not only do we barely have Vodacom signal at my house (which is clearly recorded in every conversation I’ve had with your consultants), but cancelling an order without written or SMS confirmation is shockingly unprofessional.

What makes this worse is that I have four contracts with Vodacom. My debit orders are taken promptly every month without issue, yet when it comes to service delivery, I am consistently left disappointed. I run my own business, and I know what decent service looks like — even for a fraction of what Vodacom receives from me monthly. I expect the same in return.

The only saving grace in this ordeal was Reginald in the Upgrades Department, who finally handled the matter in a professional and helpful way. Unfortunately, this came only after unnecessary stress, wasted time, and the knowledge that the nearest branch to me is 40 km away, making it impractical to resolve issues in person.

I request:
1. A clear explanation of why my order was cancelled without proper communication.
2. Assurance that such unprofessional practices will not be repeated.
3. Confirmation of how Vodacom will ensure my upgrade is properly processed without further inconvenience.

I trust that Vodacom will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves. I am happy to revert to review platforms and social media if not.

Sincerely,

This is my first contract phone i have…

This is my first contract phone i have with vodacom and my experience and journey is not to me satisfaction and I'm extremely unhappy

My phone was broken and i took it to a vodacom store in vangate mall they transfer it to the insurance for one month this was in April 2025 i collected the phone in May and the phone was not even fix the agent i spoke to couldn't even tell me why it was not fix because there was no reason, they then told me that i had to take it to a technician in kenilworth center at cell you century to see if they can fix it on when i got there they said they no longer fix phones for years and i had to go to clarmount that store this was the following week at the end. in may i took the phone i then had to wait one week for them to call and say they can not fix it, then i had to go back to the store the next week which was in June and they said they can not fix the phone i would get a new phone however i said okay that's fine what would happen, they explain they would take my phone and give me a second hand iphone 11 but if i want a iphone 13 i should call the insurance and they will trade my phone for the iPhone 13 and i have to pay a exit fee which i agreed to do however i call the insurance they said no they cant do that at this point im frustrated because everytime i think I'm getting this resolve then they mislead me ,i took a break from all this for 2 weeks because they said they will reach out to me them self but they never did.

I called them back and they explained i should go to a vodacom store in kenilworth which i went and they gave me a quote stated that they can give the iPhone 13 and showed on the system that i should just pay a exit fee and i agreed at that point. The guy who helped me said i should give the old phone to him if they can help i explained that the old phone is with the technician at cell you century and i needed to fetch it and had to go all the way to clarmount store at cell you century collect the phone and the woman told me that i need to wait for the technician to come as he is out i insist that they give the phone because i have been waiting to get this sorted however i wiated 4 hours to get it and eventually got it

This was then in july i went because this took most of my Time as i could only go in off days,,, all i did on my off days was going back and forward with this people its horrible and so stressful because i need have my phone as all my details and important information was on there , as weeks pass i took my phone back to store all of a sudden there was a bettermit fee as well with an exit fee which is ridiculous because after 2 job cards i had multiple stores i went to all the misleading information i received and the back and forth with you people there is another fee

in august i went back to the store in vanegate mall where it started and spoke to a manager he help me and did the quote and saw there was no bettermitt fee but was just a exit fee he said if show a fee i wont pay it because it clearly show no bettermitt fee i gave it another chance had hope , however the manager said that he would order the iPhone 13 as there was no iphones in store i waited and went back and he prepared everything after it was done there was a bettermitt and he couldn't help me said there's nothing he could do

After all the problem i just left everything i am very upset i still didn't get anything sorted its 5 months no results and i am still paying for a phone i can not use

The service is bad even management is bad there's no follow up all the complaints i will taking this further to the ombudsman no one can resolve this because all my time and money had to waste on transport to end result

Vodacom service sucks!

I wish to express my utter disappointment with the service I have received from Vodacom recently. My upgrade became due a few months back so I went into Vodacom4U in Hillcrest Corner in Hillcrest KZN and they couldn't do it because they were offline. After deciding to upgrade my phone & my wifi since I was going to start working from home, I visited them again & once again Ayanda did the whole process, only to discover they were offline once again. I returned on Thursday, went through the process again, taking my photo, scanning my ID & once again it didn't go through. After 3 attempts I walked out of the shop, still no closer to sorting out my upgrade. I then tried phoning, holding on for 7 minutes or more & nobody answered. I sent a "please call me" to no avail. Nobody bothered calling me back. How bad does your service have to be that a faithful customer of over 15 years has to deal with this shocking treatment? That was the last straw! I then tried to cancel my contract for the first time & after giving my ID number the lady started asking me 50 questions about my account details! What the hell has that got to do with me canceling my contract? Then I had to call again, only to go through the entire process & get questioned as to why I would cancel after all these years before this rude lady then hung up on me! I called back (for the third time) & finally got someone who spoke sense! He confirmed that the previous lady had put through my cancelation before hanging up on me! However, it would only take effect at the end of October, despite the fact that my contract ends on 29 September! Well done Vodacom, you just stole another R844 from me! Vodacom has got to be the worst company I have ever deal with. Your service is shocking, outdated & doesn't even work in your own stores! I managed to find another service provider online, did the application from the comfort of my own office and they deliver everything to my front door. Vodacom really needs to catch a wakeup! Your service is terrible & you just lost a long term customer.

Eastgate Vodacom: I am really disappointed …

I am really disappointed and enraged with the Vodacom shop at Eastgate. They always treat my elderly mother with disregard and disrespect. She recently got robbed, and her phone was stolen. She was still traumatised, and although she didn't qualify for another phone seeing her insurance was cut, they still didn't advise her to do a SIM swap. Now she has to go back and forth to do a SIM swap. She has had to go back and forth before on a different issue because they would give her insufficient information. If I did not intervene, how would she have known she can resolve her issue online? She is old and not necessarily tech-savvy. Their attitude is disgusting; they are honestly rude people. We just need mere courtesy and respect for the elderly – proper customer service.

Vodacom Fibre – Absolutely Terrible Experience

Vodacom are absolute trash when it comes to customer service. I’ve been trying to move my fibre line for two months and nothing has happened. Nobody fixes the problem, nobody follows up, and nobody cares.

Every time I call, I get passed from one department to another, ignored, and left without answers. I even did all the legwork myself — I called the infrastructure company (Octotel), found out what the actual problem was, and sent Vodacom clear, detailed instructions on exactly what needed to be done. Still, nothing.

The one person who genuinely tried to help me was ignored by his own team, so we stayed stuck. I’ve called countless times and spoken to countless people, and every single time the buck is just passed on. No responsibility, no accountability.

When I finally decided enough is enough and tried to cancel, Vodacom made the experience even worse. The first time, they hung up on me. The second time, the cancellations agent tried to retain me with empty promises that it would be resolved by the end of the day and I’d get a call. Of course, that never happened.

So I’m canceling. Done. This company is pathetic. Trash service, trash support, and an absolute waste of time. Never again.

Horrible service

Horrible service. I have been with Vodacom since 1994. The service gets worse every year. I went to a physical store to change my contract and cancel the current one. You can't do it in-store and the sales consultant can't phone their cancelations department. I phoned, had a wat longer than 10mins. Only to be told that they can only cancel the contract, that I would have to go back to the store afterwards to change my contract. It is purposely designed as a system to be s inconvenient as possible, to make cancelation and changing contracts as difficult as possible.

Reliable Service with a Great App and Roaming Options

I have had a very good experience with Vodacom. Their service has been reliable and consistent, and I find the My Vodacom app very simple and easy to use for managing my account. I literally just bought data on their app and it was quick and easy. One of the features I enjoy most is their roaming service, which has been smooth and convenient whenever I travel, like earlier this year. Overall, I am happy with Vodacom and would recommend them for both everyday use and international connectivity.

This is not sorted I want the…

This is not sorted I want the cancellation confirmation it’s been days why cause it took you seconds take money that we didn’t speak of from my account.

Since March you couldn’t even share the contact I only got it today after going to the store

From an assistant that couldn’t provide any assistance but say Vodacom works against customers there’s nothing we can do as customers

Forgetting what the contact you provided says I have the transaction of the amount you’ve been taking out imagine I could be resting on my day off now I had to go speak to someone at your store cz I can’t let you take money that we didn’t agree upon for a network that is bad
I want my money back you’ve been charging me more than R479

I can keep the next if this is corrected cz I work and have money to pay monthly but just not for the amount I’m not aware of and network issues

Recycled sim card sold as new

I bought a sim card and coverage from Vodacom at OR Tambo airport/Joburg. They sold me a sim card with someones name associated with it. Then they told me to go to a local Vodacom store and it would be sorted. But of course not, the slimy shop agent said nothing could be done. Totally shady. I'm gonna stick with MTN

Vodacom deservers zero stars

Vodacom deservers zero stars. I have no idea what is more appalling the pathetic excuse of customer support. Being spoken to in such a disrespectful manner. Dealing with over 6 staff that have no clue what they are doing and being sent back and forth just to get one item canceled. Which is still not canceled and I am still get charged since 2023 I have had this issue and NO ONE at Vodacom is helping or even attempting too. They have even blocked my number and now I have no way of contacting them but I now have to drive to the nearest store and of course they are no help they tell me to call in. Absolutely useless!!! I will never buy anything from them again

I am truly disappointed with Vodacom

I am truly disappointed with Vodacom. I initially took out a data contract when I first started working and I took out another phone contract end of the year 2023… when I lost my job beginning of this year I called the call centre to request for a settlement amount on both my contracts and the insurance, paid the amount in-store however I received a call just a few months after that to inform me that my account was in arrears(apparently the insurance and data contract was still active). I called the call centre again 2 days ago to request for closure yet again and I was advised to call accounts(to no avail) or go to the store to pay the outstanding balance. I visited Vodacom Midrand and paid an amount of R2500 and when I called cancellation to close the account I was told that I still need to pay more money for early termination. I am livid

Most useless service provider I have…

Most useless service provider I have ever worked with. Need to basically do hoola hoops to just find out when my contract ends. Called support who didn't want to take my call in the 'upgrades/cancellations' department since apparently even though it is the cancelations department too, they can't take my call as I am not due for an upgrade. I then eventually get through to a useless consultant that says I need to call the accounts department and sit on hold all over again as she can't give me a date as to when my contract ends.

Will never ever use Vodacom again. Shitty to say the least.

Avoid Vodacom Fibre at all costs

Avoid Vodacom Fibre at all costs! I applied for Vodacom Fibre internet for my aging mother-in-law. When the installer came out (Vumatel - and I have attempted to take it up with them as well!) he damaged electrical cables on the complex property. I now have an invoice from the complex electrician for the repairs.
I been been attempting to get this resolved by Vodacom since 15 July. Nobody ever gets back to me as they promise. Everyone says it will be escalated to management but nothing happens? SO250617-197814, spoke to Sashen and then Anishta at 09h50 on 15 July. Called back at 11h05and spoke to Doshnee at Retentions, again a promise to escalate.
Spoke to Nomfundu on 25 July at 14h26, SR350725-805378. Today Sharon called me at 12h58, she thought the installation had not been completed. Nobody had bothered to update the case or escalate my matter? It's 5pm now and still no call back. I don't want to give 1 months notice. I want all my money back and to be paid for the damages too!
I haven't even started thinking how I am going to move all my other business to MTN yet, and there is a fair amount of that!
