On my first experience with discogs i…

On my first experience with discogs i purchased a 2LP album with a grade of NM(near mint). I paid a premium, $250+$24shipping, but when I received my order, one record was severely warped and the other badly scratched. Neither record was playable, aside from 1-2 tracks each. When i reported the issue to discogs the cited their policy, that since they don’t have physical possession of the items, they can’t take sides on matters regarding grading disputes. I sent them the original ad, pics showing the damage, and videos proving that the records weren’t playable, and certainly not NM. At the end of the day it didn’t matter, and they did nothing to remedy the situation. So unless the scammer that sends u garbage decides to have a change of heart, and refund u ur money, ur outta luck. This was my first and consequently my last order on the platform. Not only is their policy a total cop out and a failure to take accountability, it enables dirtbag scammers to continue ripping of buyers without any kind of repercussions. Buyer beware, booooo discogs

Website is in technical shambles

Website is in technical shambles. Super hard to buy records that should be easy. They also judge buyers which is the weakest thing I have seen a website do. Your customers should be celebrated not judged and not able to buy certain items. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.

Discogs + PayPal Are Mixing Up Very Different Users (Who Happen To Share The Same Address !!!) And Discogs Simply Turns 2 Different User-Accounts From 2 Separate Persons Into 1 Account !!! Discogs And PayPal Are Probably Informing Eachother About Private Personalized Information !!! ,

In My Case They " Confused " Me With Another Person , Sharing The Same Household And Same Address !!!

Problems Have Started Long Ago And Are Still Going On Due To False + Wrong Actions By Discogs And PayPal , Which They Both Maintain To Avoid Buyer Protection , As They Falsely Claim To Provide !!!! ..... NOT !!!!! )

BUYERS , BEWARE OF THESE 2 COMPANIES , YOUR PERSONAL DATA IS CERTAINLY NOT SAFE WITH THEM + THEY DO NOT GIVE THE REQUIRED BUYER PROTECTION !!!

People Sharing A Same Address Can Not Each Have A Separate Account Because Discogs + PayPal Will Confuse That And Criminalize Both Of You Without Any Just Cause And Neglect Proper Checking !!! ,

As If It Isn't Bad Enough That Both Companies Do Not Provide Any Proper Buyer Protection And Leave That Up To Sellers Who Do Not Respond Well To That And Will Not Refund You If They Are Dishonest !!!

Discogs + PayPal Have Left Dishonest Sellers All The Room For Their Dishonest Practices ( After All : PayPal Previously Destroyed Ebay In The Same Fashion , Now PayPal Has Found Discogs To Do The Same , And Discogs Is Following PayPal 100 % !!! )

Cancelled After 8 Weeks Trying To Set Up A Sellers Account. Joke Of A Platform

Well because of eBay not being what it was, I thought I'd give this a try. Yes, well the reviews here are worse than eBay. Well I tried to list a record for sale and was repeated asked to wright a postage policy or something daft like that. I'd already said I include such within my prices but no. Well I'm pretty tech savvy but this is just about impossible to do so I gave up first time around. Now I've figured it out It seems to be ok. Well I deleted my first account after waiting almost 3 weeks for them to do God knows what before I could list anything live. Just opened another account today - I'll update in a few weeks!I

02/03/2025. Still no good. Apparently my account has been "activated" but I am still unable to sell anything.

04/03/2025. have been told that it will be a week more. Mmmm.. They still haven't told me why it takes about 1000 times longer to sell a few vinyl records than open a bank account. It's like trying to get the password to break into Fort Knox.
"We're aware that there is a fairly steep learning curve to getting started". Really? Do I need a University Degree perhaps?I

06/03/2025. They now say my PayPal account is not linked, hence my items are "not visible to buyers". I've told them twice that it is linked but they don't believe me. You know eBay is crap now, but at least I could sell on it! Frankly this is worse so far. Its a mess.I
22/03/2025
Cancelled without even getting an item for sale. They can't even cancel my account and keep writing to me. Avoid this lot at all costs. Its almost as bad as EBay, and that's saying something.

Awful customer/seller service

Awful customer/seller service. They just don't care about bad customers and sellers. And even worse, they remove bad reviews for no reason. So bad people can still have 100% positive reviews because they succeed in having the negative ones removed. They charge 9% fees on transactions for doing what? Nothing!

Great source of records. Appalling run. Very poor experience with a seller.

Don't dare make a mistake, or you'll be black listed.
I tried to make my first purchase on Discogs, but with my choice of record in my basket, I went back to just check I was buying vinyl and not a CD, but the basket had disappeared when I tried to find it again, no matter how hard I tried to find it, and I assumed I must have acccidentally deleted it, and started a new basket and purchased the same record from a different seller. A few days later I found a message to say I'd been given a negative rating by the seller of the record in the missing basket for non payment of an item in the basket. I wrote two most apologetic explanations about how I was new to Discogs, and was not tech savvy, and how I'd made the mistake I made, but I received no reply from them - electrical_storm, and my black mark remained, meaning many sellers will not now do business with me, all because of a genuine mistake. It is not nice dealing with people like that. They also removed my ability to give feedback about them. I tried the Discogs' Help service, but my request was not dealt with - had an email to say they were dealing with it and to wait for their email, but it never came; I tried to use the internal complaints procedure, but could not find this despite following the instructions. Discogs has some great records for the collector and some genuinely decent sellers, but the way it is run and the way you can be black listed for a technical error and have no accessible way of seeking redress is appalling, as is the behaviour of electrical_storm. They and the administration of Discogs lack accessibility, accountability and those qualities essential in any transaction between people - understanding, empathy and forgiveness. I have since successfully bought several records from reputable sellers, though they do not give estimated delivery dates as they do on ebay, which is frustrating. So, some great records and great sellers, but in other ways a nightmare to use.

Hi Rob, we're so sorry to read about your negative experience using Discogs. We're aware of how unnecessarily complex our checkout system is and the implications this can have for new buyers.

We can certainly help you in this situation. It sounds like you already filed a support request, please be sure to respond to the latest message you received from us. This will open the ticket again in our systems, and you will maintain your original place in our queues from the original date you wrote to us. Poor customer support and heavily biased toward sellers

I'm really upset about the whole complaints process and the ridiculously slow response time from the discogs feedback review team. The site is full of sellers who either have no clue about, or are deliberately flouting, the goldmine standard grading system. Postage can sometimes be the most costly part of buying a record, and when a vinyl is not as described the buyer is always out of pocket. The whole system is rigged in favour of the seller because if the buyer complains, the likelihood is that he will receive negative feedback. There's a reason why other established sites such as eBay do not allow sellers to leave negative feedback, and this is it. A lot of sellers will only sell records to buyers who have a 100% positive feedback rating so this further reinforces the threat of not complaining. I've recently had a seller send out a well used and scratched record described as near mint and "amazing condition". The record was only 2 pounds, but the postage on it was a further 6, so I'm out of pocket 8 pounds and was also left negative feedback for the privilege despite telling the seller to keep the money. The seller was rude and confusing, and went from being nice to angry very quickly. He tried every trick in the book including trying to claim I turned down a full refund which he'd already rescinded before I had chance to respond. Later he even tried to accuse me of harassing him for asking him to remove the ridiculously unfair negative feedback. This is precisely the main problem with discogs. Buyers shouldn't be open to negative feedback abuse and if a record is grossly overgraded the buyer should receive his postage back. It's a fantastic business model that discogs are running here where they accept none of the liability and take all of the profits. Something else I'd like to know is, why are we charged import duty on records from abroad when this should be free under 130 pounds. There's something highly irregular about this and it's virtually killed buying records abroad. Where does this money go? It would seem it goes to the seller but the seller doesn't pay duty on it so I just don't get it. The point is if I were to buy any other goods from, say, Germany, and it comes to a value less than £130 then I don't pay duty on it, and neither does the seller, so why am I paying 20% on top for a 15 pound record?
The way this site works desperately needs overhauling, so that users get a fairer deal, both buying and selling.

UPDATE
Discogs finally decided to review the negative feedback after I left this review on trustpilot and, what a shocker, upheld in favour of the seller despite him flouting the grading system and being rude and aggressive throughout. This is the kind of treatment you should expect if you decide to buy on discogs. They simply do not care about buyers and take absolutely no responsibility for anything that happens on their own platform. I've been abused and ripped off multiple times over the years and there is zero comeback.
They are conspicuous by their silence over this review.
They replied to a previous review around the same time, so they've definitely read it. I'd like to know what discogs have to say about forcing buyers to pay VAT payments automatically despite being well below the chargeable threshold?
Pffft. I'm even more disgruntled over this than I was before. It's a total disgrace that rude and aggressive rip-off merchants are allowed to peddle on here and get away with sullying the good name of genuine and honest people. I will now be barred from buying from certain sellers through absolutely no fault of my own. It seems to me that they are simply protecting their profits by allowing sellers to send out hugely overgraded records and talk to their customers like dirt simply because they've had the audacity to complain.
Perhaps discogs might actually take the time to reply because at the moment their silence is deafening.

EDIT 2
Discogs read my review and complained about me naming the offending seller but still haven't replied. Sellers name has been removed under duress, but I don't see why they should be protected. So basically they get away with ripping me off, talking to me like dirt, leaving me negative feedback, and having nothing to answer to whilst leaving me out of pocket for a worthless scratched record.
Well done Discogs!

FINAL UPDATE
After receiving a reply from discogs, I still do not understand why they are collecting tax on records of such a low value, but if this is by law then I can accept it.
Regarding retaliatory feedback. I'm well aware that this is against the rules and by stating this, should I have left them feedback first? I was trying to be decent by not sullying the sellers name despite their attitude and poor grading, and they responded by leaving a negative which is totally unjustified. It should be removed.

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for updating your review by removing the Personally Identifiable Information linked to your seller. This ensures a safe environment for all of our users and compliance with our Privacy Policy.

We truly are sorry to read of the negative experience you had on Discogs. Your review covers a lot of points, we will try our best to speak to them, but the best place to have a conversation is via a support request with our Community Support Team.

As record collectors ourselves, we understand how frustrating it is to get a record in a condition worse than advertised. And of course this is further frustrated when you lose out on shipping costs. It is at the seller's discretion whether or not they cover shipping costs for returns. This information should be listed in the seller's Seller Terms, which should always be reviewed before any purchase.

Retaliatory feedback is a violation of our Feedback Guidelines. If a seller leaves a buyer feedback solely in response to the negative feedback they have received, it is likely eligible for removal. We're sorry for any delay you experienced in having your feedback reviewed and removed. We do our best to get through our current substantial backlog, but we receive 100+ removal requests a day and we wish to take the time required to review each case individually. Your review was dealt with in the order in which it was received and was not expedited as a result of your TrustPilot review.

Discogs complies with all international tax laws as set out by the regulatory bodies that set them. All taxes collected are remitted to the applicable tax agencies around the globe. Discogs will not charge VAT on orders with a total purchase price exceeding EUR 150. VAT becomes the responsibility of the buyer when the total purchase price of an order exceeds the import threshold of EUR 150. Please review our Tax Policy document for details on how we charge tax.

Bully culture

Same experience with the other people giving zero star. The marketplace used to be good. The forum, ehh, is full of self centered people (mostly baby bomber white men) bullying others. A user stalked me for a year on my listing. I reported this to the admin. Admin said they would deal with it but nothing happened. The high rank user continued his bully.
It is quite funny to see bullying behavior is still called as "peer-review" on the site by high rank users. I have gone through numerous peer review process in my life time and never experienced such rude and ignorant reviewers. Those users are impacting any other user with moral standard.
