We were very well informed at every stage of the service. However we're not happy because we have to wait a month before we have the oil leak investigated owing to no availability of a loan car

Dreadful experience at Evans Halshaw, Wessington Way, Sunderland.

We bought a Seat Ibiza, from Evans Halshaw ,Wessington Way ,Sunderland. It was registered in December, 23 and had a recorded mileage of 10,000. We paid close to £16k, which included part ex and an extended 2 year warranty.
During the test drive we felt unhappy about the clutch; we reported this to EH, and they reassured us that they would check it out.
On our second visit we were told that the car had been properly examined, and that all was well. They claimed that the problems we experienced on the test drive were the result of ‘new driver’s unfamiliarity with the clutch.’
Foolishly we believed them, big mistake.
Twelve days of local driving later, the car completely broke down.

EH picked up the car, gave us a courtesy car, which we thought was the least they could do , but EH gave us the impression that they thought they were doing us a massive favour……..need less to say on this, our third visit to the showroom, the smiling face of our salesman had completely disappeared, and his previous friendly demeanour was transformed into the cold shoulder treatment. He told us in no uncertain terms that his job was done , we were now Services problem. The subtext of this was your money is in EH’s account, my job is done, one your way.

We were glad to leave the showroom as it was made very clear that we were persona non grata.

Two days later we received a telephone call to say that the clutch on the car needed replacing, because in the twelve days we were in possession of the car, we had obviously been ‘riding the clutch’.

We were incredulous as we have both driven for for well over 50 years.
By this time we had been handed over to the Business Manager, and we exchanged several emails. He was adamant that he had photographic evidence of the clutch being burnt out, and as we had damaged it we would need to pay for the replacement. And no, we could not claim under warranty, it did not cover the clutch.
As we are two elderly women , the stress began to effect us, and all advice was that we needed to eradicate this tension from our lives.EH were aware of this problem, their one word response was ‘understood’.
We could have returned the car, taken back our part ex car, but a Trustpilot review , YG70 BHL, from another aggrieved customer, warned of EH causing him problems when he took this route.
We were absolutely loth to give EH any more of our
hard earned savings, so for the sake of our health we
very reluctantly agreed to waive our extended two year warranty to settle the clutch bill. This resulted in EH owing us £110 which did not end up in our account for almost 3 weeks. So , in short, we were left £585 out of pocket.
I have since pursued our case through EH’s grievance procedure channels via eu lithia and EH’s help line. All to no avail as, believe it or not, this decision not to return our warranty or £585 was made by the Business Manager at EH who had caused us all this grief, in the first place. EH mark their own homework. No sign of an independent adjudicator.

Our case is now in the hands of the National Conciliation Service.

So our advice to anyone thinking of buying a used car from EH in Sunderland is to tread very carefully indeed.

Great service

Great service. Adam the sales advisor was great from start to finish and was kept up to date with everything. Couldn’t fault him at all.He really is very professional and not at all pushy.
I would have given 5 stars but knocked one one mark down for attention to detail from the valeting team. On the surface it looks great but when opening the doors and also the fuel cap, this showed really dirty marks which had been missed.

Multiple faults - no resolution

Total frustration with this dealership. Multiple faults resulting in Multiple returns to dealership. Serious faults diagnosed by local technicians resulting in car being told to drive but only under caution as likely could cause serious issues including leading to possible engine replacement. Total disregard shown yet admitting to faults. Constantly told parts required but dealership trying to source cheapest price for parts. Six months later still no fix and frustratingly despite requests for updates no returns of phone calls. On looking at reviews seems is and has been similar occurrence with other customers. Irony is after writing this I may eventually get a generic reply from customer services asking me to detail all again. Have informed dealership my next steps likely to be referring to legal intervention and get Ombudsman involved.

Stay well clear dont waste money on warranty

Thay are all lovely when your looking to buy a car .Dont want to know after .DO NOT BUY THEIR WARRANTY. Its where they make thier money I paid nearly £1000 for 3 years warranty had another garage said warranty would cover. Then the guy says not covered and makes some excuse saying it was error on my part showed loads the video all said straight away what it was wish ii haf read reviews earlier shocking. I will never buy another car off them took it to independent garage after who said car had loads new stuff put in but there was obviously still an underlying problem I had to top up with oil every 3 months trying to get through on phone they dont answer. Never in all my years of having cars have I ever had problems like this one Took them 6 weeks before they could even take car to be looked

Purchased a 2018 Vauxhall Mokka X from…

Purchased a 2018 Vauxhall Mokka X from this dealership, it was a part exchange in very good condition. Harry the salesman was extremely good and efficient at his job. My wife loved the car so we made a deal on Wednesday with an agreement that the car would be ready for collection on Saturday at 9:00am

Excited to be collecting her new car my wife and I set out today (Saturday) to collect it. Driving from Wolverhampton to Stourbridge which is about a 40 minutes drive so it’s not down the road. Literally 5 minutes from the Kia dealership I received a text informing me that the car had an oil leak so we would not be able to collect it today.

My wife was really disappointed, when I complained and ask if they could take some money off the price because of the inconvenience caused to us the sales manager said no, thus 1 star for customer service and satisfaction.

They had the car from Wednesday to Saturday and only just discovered it was leaking oil. That leads me to believe the car had been parked up since Wednesday even though they assured us it would be checked cleaned and validated in time for Saturday.

We just purchased a new Santa Fe and Cory was great!

We just purchased a new Santa Fe and the service has been fantastic. We had been looking for quite a few months and been back multiple times for test drives and asking questions. Cory, Matt and Dylan have all been excellent over that time. No high pressure sales. When we had made the decision and came in to place the order Matt and Cory went above and beyond, ensuring we got to see a car in the colour we were ordering, so we knew we liked it. From ordering to collection it was 2-3 weeks. We were kept informed and Cory has been fantastic as sorting out all the paperwork and answering the questions we had. The collection was perfect and everything was dealt with, ensuring we were happy. Great service and would recommend.

Amazing service received!

We received amazing service when purchasing our new car this week. Sent the enquiry online on Sunday and advised I needed to chat before going further. Will contacted me and listened whilst I told him our situation with my current car and needing to change to an automatic due to mobility issues. He was supportive every step of the way. From the first contact, to the test drive, to picking up the car today. Will was not pushy and just gave us all the information to make our own informed decision. We’ve never purchased from Evans Halshaw before but this experience has given us the confidence to come back when the husband is ready for a new car.
