We contacted TaxAssist Direct Ltd after discovering serious issues relating to the handling of our company's accounts by one of their franchise offices. Given the potential financial consequences involved, including HMRC liabilities, penalties and interest, we expected the matter to be treated with urgency and escalated appropriately.

Unfortunately, our experience with TaxAssist Direct Ltd has been almost as disappointing as our experience with the branch itself.

As the organisation responsible for overseeing and supporting the TaxAssist network, we expected proactive assistance, clear communication and a genuine commitment to helping resolve a situation that had arisen within one of their offices. Instead, we were left feeling that the seriousness of the matter was not fully appreciated and that there was little urgency in addressing the concerns we had raised.

When a client is facing significant tax demands, penalties and interest as a result of issues linked to a member office, the expectation is that the central organisation will actively assist in finding a resolution and ensure that appropriate support is provided. In our case, we felt that responsibility was largely pushed back to the branch involved, despite the fact that we had escalated the matter specifically because we had lost confidence in the branch's ability to resolve it.

What disappointed us most was the lack of reassurance, ownership and practical assistance during a highly stressful situation for our business. We were looking for leadership, oversight and support from the wider TaxAssist organisation but instead felt that we were left to navigate the problem ourselves.

We appreciate that TaxAssist offices operate as independent businesses. However, when serious concerns are raised regarding service standards, missed submissions, penalties and potential errors that have significant financial consequences for a client, there should be a clear process for intervention and support from the central organisation.

Based on our experience, TaxAssist Direct Ltd did not provide the level of assistance, urgency or customer care that we would have expected when dealing with such a serious matter.

Fantastic service getting our UK tax returns done by the new owner at the Newbury branch, Hugo Mills. Very efficient and 100% helpful. Communications were prompt, clear and tailored to our needs. Online tools for uploading and reviewing documents were easy to use and didn't detract from the sense of a personalized service. Pricing was very reasonable. Was happy to accommodate us when we preferred to use a different method to complete ID checks. Thoroughly recommended.

I'd rate them 0 star if I could. They were only forthcoming when they wanted us to enter a contract with them. They didn't file a tax return last January, they said I wasn't supposed to give one. However, HMRC sent me a default notice and an impending £100 charge. We reached Taxassist accountants at furst, but there was no response. When the deadline was close we sent another one abd they said I should pay the £100 because the deadline was close and they will contest it after the deadline. We have tried multiple times to reach them since to no avail. We've spoken to secretary after secretary who promised to get the accountant to call back but no call. We've left emails but no reply. It's so frustrating that we're being charged nearly £2000+ for the tax year and have to pay penalty charges.

I was contacted by phone to arrange an appointment two days later. The staff were very nice and explained everything about the fees, the paperwork that I needed for them etc.
I then got an email to confirm everything and a link to the website and to proceed.
They are always at the end of the phone if you need any help or questions answered.
I have now given them my paperwork and the are in the process of my tax matters.

Very helpful and friendly atmosphere

Once again, Max has gone the extra mile in assisting me on my tax return. Always unfailingly polite, Max reviewed and completed my tax return in a timely manner, answered all questions, and gave sound advice.
