Last year I gave this company a glowing report after they came out when my car broke down. Alas, when I tried to cancel the policy things went a little differently. They had already renewed my policy and taken payment before the expiry of the original policy. Despite the original policy still being valid, they have deducted £8.99 from my refund. They had sent me an email explaining what they would do but I was away and not able to cancel in time. I explained this but to no avail. I think this is very poor customer service.

AVOID! I have been waiting for over 3 hours to be picked up in the pouring rain on the side of the motorway.
There has been no call backs or contact from action call or the agent. I have had to call them. I was told to call the company that have been sent the job. Their phone is off and they are not contactable.
Apparently, there is only one operative on the road and we still don’t know how long he is going to be.
The person picking us up has lied and said that he has been contacting us, when he hasn’t.
I am so angry, cold, tired, wet and upset and I would STRONGLY ADVISE AVOIDANCE!

Only found out this morning that this company has auto renewed my breakdown insurance. Apparently I ticked a box agreeing to auto renewing this policy last year. This was hidden, quite deeply I suspect, in the terms and conditions. ‘As a gesture of good will’ they will only charge me £6.99 cancellation fee. The point being is a) I didn’t get a renewal notice b) being charged £6.99 cancellation fee for a policy I didn’t ask for. This is sharp practice and designed to trip customers up - I mean who the hell reads the terms and conditions in that tiny print! They know that of course and that’s how they trip the customer up with the renewal.

Just tried to cancel my policy with action call before it started and they want to charge me 6.99 for the privilege and even not give me anything back that I already paid to them also staff are rude and unhelpful absolute rip off having read reviews I think this company won’t last too long DO not buy breakdown cover from this company their terms and conditions are not fair make sure you cancel early to buy elsewhere will be reporting this matter to trading standards policy number ACBD-0523289606

Policy auto-renewed so tried to cancel the policy before it had started and they are now trying to charge a cancellation fee. Dealt with a girl called Chelsea who was very unhelpful and claimed there were no managers in the office to speak to. They seemed happy to receive a bad review rather refund my total fee.

My husband had breakdown cover with action call (also something to do with Dynamo!!) after breaking down and calling out the company only to realise later the paper work action call had emailed to him at the start of the cover the telephone number was incorrect!!!! it went through to a company that action call no longer use!! we were told to pay £111.00 or they would not assist with the breakdown and that they would in the meantime sort out the mix up. After hundreds of emails and phone calls to snotty, very rude customer service, oh and minus £25 excess, we eventually received the refund two months later!!. We never received an apology or anything. I cannot believe they sent out paper work with the incorrect telephone number for a breakdown, how much more ridiculous can that be. This company is an absolute shambles, we will never go with them again

Overall, a really awful service.
They will charge to cancel the policy despite being in the 14 day cooling off period, are generally unapologetic, and I for one will never again touch them with a barge pole.

Really poor. I agree with the chap below. Dodgy cancellation policy and unable to cancel on email link. I don’t think this is right or transparent and will pass on to ombudsmen. I could not recommend at all. I would go elsewhere.

Despite ringing to cancel my contract auto-renewal before the end of my contract, Action call had already taken my money.
When I called them (still almost a week before the cover was due to start) they refused to refund an £8.99 admin fee. We don't have time to read the small print in every email we receive; instead we trust that companies will not take advantage of having our credit card details and apply unnecessary charges. Complete rip off.

Great service, everyone I spoke to at Action Call was incredibly friendly and helpful. They even called back to check if I got home safely.
I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews on here in the past, but they didn't let me down at all.
Absolutely terrible company
Absolutely terrible company, if I could give them a 0, I would. I purchased breakdown cover from these crooks then had to pay an additional £25 when I called them out. The guy that came out already with a car on the back of his truck so couldn't move mine to a garage. My car battery was dead so all he needed to do was charge it. He charged it for about about a minute and it turned on, he said he couldn't take it to a garage as he already had a car on the back of his truck. He then proceeded to say I had to call another truck out tomorrow and I would be charged another £25! Are you kidding?! I'm going back to RAC, they actually have proper devices to diagnose the issue and are so much more efficient and friendly. Don't waste your time, hopefully with all the negative reviews they get, they will go out of business soon.

I wish I had checked this company out before buying a policy. A couple of months ago I bought a breakdown cover policy and last week changed my car. I then rang Action Call to notify them of the change , only to be told that it was not transferable to another vehicle nor would they refund any remaining months or allow me to restart the policy after the free A A policy included with my new car expired next year. Far worse was their response when I said that in that case I should like to cancel the policy. Apparently, they charge £9.99p. to cancel a policy. In addition, beware of the small print which states that renewal is automatic. I wasn’t aware of this as I never take automatic renewal but I was at fault for not reading the terms and conditions. I now have a policy without the car which will run for another 10 months.l am just hoping that I will not be charged an automatic renewal as I refuse to pay the cancellation fee. Never,ever use these rogues.

Don’t use this company. I should have read the small print before I took out the policy I know but surely obtaining a refund after 14 days should have been explained to me before I handed over any money. My new car dealer has offered a years breakdown cover for free and I thought it would be easy, as is with other companies, to get a part refund on the months I won’t be using i.e. 8 months. They would cancel the policy but NO REFUND AND AN ADMIN CHARGE OF £6.99 for the privilege!!! I have never spoken to a ruder team EVER!!!
When transferred to the manager she was even more condescending and ruder still. Who trains these people!! So folks they might be cheap but they treat you even cheaper so my advice is steer clear at all costs.

Took out a policy with action call on 8th March. Had to scrap my car on the 23rd of March. Bought a new car tried to swap policy over. This rubbish company would not change my details over onto a new policy as that was the small print cannot swap policy onto a different car. Spoke to Spencer awful communication skills. Please be very careful this company is robbing people. Will never recommend to anyone.

Great service broke down spoke to David at Action Call and breakdown truck arrived 20 minutes later could not repair at roadside so recovered car to garage all within one and a half hours all for the cost of £33 per year, what a service

Wish I had checked this shoddy mob before buying a breakdown policy. Bought it two weeks before I needed it and then decided to cancel for a "Full" refund (words used by their advisor) because new car policy has breakdown cover. Insisted on charging 8.99 cancellation fee on a 31.99 policy which isn't even in force. No such thing as a cooling off period with them. DON'T USE and trading standards should be investigating them.

Horrible company. They provide you an old policy with outdated conditions so you are misslead before signed up. When you purchase and realise that the terms and conditions are different they say they werent aware of that and if you want to cancel you will pay a much higher fee than indicated on the policy that they had available prior to purchase.

DO NOT BUY FROM ACTION CALL or DYNAMO (same company). We were left stranded in the snow with a child, and no coats on, and no heating in the car, for hours, while they claimed they could not find our policy, even though we had a policy document with policy number, and also a receipt, and also cold see the charge on our credit card statement. Repeated calls and no apology and no refund either. Had to cancel via credit card. By the way we were finally rescued by AA who were passing by, who said no charge, but with whom we took out a policy as they were so helpful and a nam you can trust UNLIKE ACTION CALL DYNAMO
