UltraXtend doesn't do what it says on the box

You hear of rip-offs like this all the time but it never crosses your mind that you can be a victim. But you can.
Having upgraded to BT fibre, my old signal extender was no longer compatible with the new BT Smart Hub 2 router. Having read rave reviews about the UltraXtend repeater, I decided to purchase one. It arrived within a few days.
The so called "clear" instructions were less clear than a non-techy like myself would have liked but I manged to connect my new repeater wirelessly to the BT router without too much difficulty. Things were going well!
Then came the bit that should have been easy. I found the new repeater in the list of available networks on my PC and clicked on it to connect. Naturally, it asked for my network security key which I typed in. To my surprise, I was told it was incorrect. I typed again and the same thing happened. I kept trying for several hours during which time I reset the repeater with the BT hub a few times to ensure I had done that correctly.
I then connected the repeater to the PC by Ethernet cable to prove that it was the wireless element that wasn't functioning. It worked fine with the cable.
I thought perhaps I had used the wrong security key so I emailed the UltraXtend support desk to ask which key number I should be using. Their reply was a copy and paste job from instructions about positioning of the various network elements but no mention of a number.
So I wrote back and asked more specifically for advice about what to type into the network security key field. Back came another copy and paste directly from the original printed instructions which had come with the purchase and which, of course, I had already read and found unhelpful.
So I wrote back again and said that all I wanted was an email explaining in very simple language what I needed to do.
I was amazed to receive the following:
"Apologies, I'd love to be able to assist you with this but the problem that you are facing isn't within the scope of my knowledge anymore.
Please try to contact a technician or an IT Expert who can help you in regards with your concern. It is possible the the issue is already beyond the technicality that we normally encounter."
So much for their after sales support.
I really should have read the Trustpilot reviews first. There are plenty of warnings on this site.

Unacceptably slow download speeds.

I have full fibre internet with very good speed but a dead spot in the bedroom. I have ethernet cable from my router to the bedroom (for internet TV) so this ultrXtend wired with this cable (TV disconnected) should have solved the problem. I have manage to set up ok and can log onto the device and have a good signal strength but download speeds are ridiculously slow only 2 or 3 Mb per second on two different lap top PC's. Absolute waste of money. Unfortunately other sites give very good reviews which must be fake as others here have similar problems.

Don't waste your money on these!

I purchased two of these based on a review web site. Instructions are not clear but despite this I cannot get past the "repeater mode" part of the set up process. Absolute rubbish, just wished I'd seen the reviews on here before.

DO NOT BUY.

DO NOT BUY.
Total waste of money didn't improve performance and when I tried to return they became very difficult offered me a discount of 20% and keep the product. I declined then they offered me 30% discount again I declined. So then the return address I was sent was in the US. Ended up keeping them and accepting the 30% refund. Total scam.

Terrible customer service, terrible product

I purchased the product based on reviews on other sites. It worked fine for about 2-3 weeks and then went completely dead. I contacted customer support who advised they only guarantee the product for 30 days. Terrible customer service, terrible product.

Dreadful experience with this company. AVOID!

Dreadful experience with this company! The leaflet was very poorly laid out, confusing and no help at all. I couldn't get the device to boost my WiFi and email responses from the company were generic and didn't answer specific queries. The wording also suggested they were from an Asian source, and not the start-up Australian company suggested in the review site I bought through.

The company wouldn't tell me how to return the gadget for a refund, and eventually stopped responding. I complained through PayPal, who found in my favour and refunded the cost of the device and sales tax (I still had to write off the £12 postage though). Do not buy from this company; I suspect the review site is part of the set up and possibly just a sophisticated scam.

The link the company provides in the 'quick start' leaflet to set up the device was http (not https) and, therefore, not secure if entering any personal details.

The stars are for reading about trustpilot

The stars are for reading about this company trustpilot , just as I was getting ready to get my credit card out! Thank you all for your reviews! I found many different company sites that must be from them- great reviews about it!
However, I’m grateful I did much digging before finding this site! It’s amazing that there were at least six or more websites that were a scam site from them! You have to do a lot of digging to catch the honest site like this one! Guess I will keep looking for a good one!
Thanks again to all of you for letting me stop myself from a bad company!

Wish I had been here sooner

Wish I had been here sooner. Ordered TWO as it was a promotion and my wifi went from +500mbps to under 20. Checked with 3 different phones and a laptop and I even contacted them with a picture from the website that shows "518.73 vs 18.95"mbps so the unit basically cuts ~500mbps OFF your wifi speed. Perhaps I can sell these to someone on kijii that is clueless. Totally useless product.

The device didn't work as expected

The device didn't work as expected. Following the instructions in the manual, I plugged it near my router, I pressed the wps button on the router and then on the extender, which eventually stopped blinking, signalling that a connection was established. However, I could not see the repeater's network PIX-LINK-2.4G from any of my devices (I tried on two different phones, and a laptop), and therefore could not complete the setup.

Customer support was responsive but couldn't give me any more information than what's in the manual. I therefore decided to return the device and request a refund. Customer support offered me instead to keep the device with a 20% refund of my total transaction, which then became a 30% refund after I insisted. I eventually went for this option, which costed me 36.35 GBP (my total transaction was 51.94 GBP, and the refund 15.59 GBP). For comparison, if I went for a return, I'd have had to pay an extra 5 GBP handling fee, plus 10 GBP shipping costs, and would hopefully have received a refund of 33.32 GBP (the net cost of the device). This option would have costed me 33.62 GBP overall, so not worth it.

In addition, although not specified in the product description webpage, this extender is only a single band 2.4GHz. While for the same price you can find dual band 5GHz & 2.4GHz extenders which actually work and can be set up seamlessly.

Overall, I'm definitely not pleased with my experience, and would strongly advice anyone to avoid purchasing this product.

Avoid this company like the plague

Avoid this company like the plague. Product does not extend or speed up my broadband. In fact, installed it right next to my router and on checking the speed found it to be half the speed of my router. Have been trying to contact them to return it but no answer on the support line and no response to my emails. £50 down the drain.

*****DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY

*****DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE FAKE AND WILL CON YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY*****

Wished I had read reviews before buying. To start charged me nearly £10 for postage so that’s how they make their money back on the so called amazing price of £39.99. As soon as I received the piece of rubbish they call the fantastic UltraXTend I request a refund because they said on their website not to refuse or return without contacting them.
Now despite doing that I now know I won’t hear anything back from them as up until the product arrived they replied to my emails.
I can’t afford to lose the £50+. But am now stuck between a rock and a hard place because no matter what ‘GoGoGadgets’ still have my money.
