Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 1,457 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers found the pricing to be excessively high for repairs and services, often questioning the necessity of recommended work and receiving significantly lower quotes elsewhere for the same issues. Reviewers frequently encountered problems with the service itself, including incomplete work, incorrect diagnoses, and a lack of essential parts or oil, leading to delays and additional inconvenience. The booking process was often problematic, with appointments being cancelled last minute or not honored, and customers sometimes faced long waiting times despite having scheduled appointments. While some staff members were praised for being helpful and professional, a notable portion of customers described staff as rude, unhelpful, or incompetent, with some even reporting unprofessional behavior. However, some people mentioned positive experiences with specific individuals who were knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient, ensuring work was completed carefully and keeping them informed.

Halfords Auto Centre replaced my sensors

Took my car to Halfords, Tritton Road lincoln for what I was told by KwikFit was a DPF clean, but on arrival was told that I was given the incorrect information By KF, and that it was in fact 2 faulty Sensors. They got to work and had to collect parts from another Halfords (Local) and though it was a job that neither they or I had expected needed doing, as it was not what my car was booked in for... they were happy to get the work done and get me on the road again.

Bad service

I booked an appointment to fix a puncture on my VW Golf. Despite the appointment I was told I'd have a 90 minute wait. Then told they didn't have the tyre in stock anyway. The tyre is nothing special, you'd think they'd carry them. The staff couldn't care less.

Cancelled on me twice

Cancelled on me twice, first because the technician was ill, fair enough, second time they "did not have a technician in the area "

As far as I was aware when you book a service, it's not on the off chance that there's a technician in the area

This meant that my car was not serviced before going into storage which was very disappointing, also that the cheek to send me a £40 bill for an unattended visit!

Watch out they take money they are not entitled to and do not honour price match promise like they promise on their website.

Watch out, they do not always honour legitimate price match promise claims… When I requested a price match against blackcircles.com service they claimed they do not price match balckcircles.com and they do not price match Asda Tyres even though both fall within their published price match terms and conditions. They were not willing to divulge why they point blank refuse to price match them for exactly the same make, model and size tyre and fully fitted. In fact they end any chat asking them to explain why. I personally believe the price match promise is a fraudulent offer to lull potential customers into a false sense of security knowing that they will arbitrarily decline the competitor knowing that we have no initial recourse at their refusal to price match any serious competitor. Their customer service is non-extant and they also stole £322.28 by taking money that was initially declined by my bank so the order did not complete and no order number was generated and no service was provided, but because I later found out by bank text message a payment had been declined I knew the obscure error presented by the halfords website when I attempted to order was due to the bank declining the unusual payment and I had to use the bank app to confirm it was me trying to place the order and for some reason the bank allowed halfords autocenter to take the money in addition to the same payment again for a legitimate subsequent order that did succeed… Halfords had no right to take the payment that was not associated with any valid order! I tried to get Halfords to refund me the money taken in error and they claimed it would take 5 to 7 days… there has been no further communication from them on this matter so I have contacted my bank and informed them of the illegal withdrawal of funds and requested a charge back for the amount taken without authorisation. I recently found another tyre fitting service that offered exactly the same tyre make, model and size and full fitting but they hid behind the fact that a little more than 7 days had passed to decline the price match. This time they said the do price match RAC tyre service, personally I don’t believe it myself. They’ve already refused to price match two other providers with no legitimate reason even though both suppliers comply with their published terms and conditions for the price match promise.
It is a shame as it appears I was fortunate in that my mobile tyre fitting first for a pair of front tyres and then a day later for a pair of rear tyres went well with no complaints about the fitters. But their price match promise lies and atrocious customer support has earned them a zero stars if possible… so 1 star trust pilot review.

Avoid Weybridge Halford autocentre they will ruin your car as they did with my car , did send the car for the diesel filter change and prior to that 2 weeks before was done a full service at the same centre and came up with nothing wrong with the car , got the car with the big engine noise after they did the service and ended up breaking down in 10 minutes drive at M25 with the engine sized, got the car back at the back of a pickup truck AA to the centre as they told me to send it back handed over the keys and never heard from them and had to chase them the car it’s still sitting outside Halford on the roadside broken, they did not even apologise for what they done and lied the car was like that before they did the service
Avoid the centre you won’t get the car served you will destroy your cars there , the manager there arrogant, liar, unprofessional,
The costumer service well don’t bother to call them up you won’t solve anything If you decide to send the cars there please make evidence so if they manage to ruin your car you have something to show up
Avoid at all costs that centre if you still want to have your car

NO STARS!!!!!!!.....Aylestone Rd, Leicester Branch.

NO STARS!!!!!!!.....I had a dashcam and it recorded the garage staff rummaging through my centre caddy, glove box and front parcel shelf contents!. I paid for an Aircon diagnostic but my dashcam just showed them doing a regas without completing the full diagnostic and leak tests first (as paid for). It did (initially) fix my problem (aircon not working) but the mechanics were unprofessional, disrespectful of my cars contents and didn't complete all tasks as paid for (as filmed on my dashcam!)
I then went on holiday 2 days later (in the vehicle) and on the drive there ......My Aircon stopped working again!!!!!!!. I visited a "real garage" and they informed me the refrigerant had gone (leaked!). So they have charged me for two procedures, done neither of them correctly, and I am back to square one (but out of pocket!!!!!) Avoid!!!!!

Booked four tyres replacing with a four wheel alignment. Was told 4 wheel alignment wasn’t available. Expected work to take 1 hour. Was quoted two hours, returned and am still waiting three hours later. Not much work going on in the garage. Lots of sandwiches and cups of tea though. Won’t be using them again. Am very disappointed.

Charged for the work, told me it was done, TWICE, but it wasn’t and my vehicle was returned with damaged steering components

I am leaving this review to share my experience of repair and alignment work carried out at a Halfords Autocentre.

Following a repair I paid for a full four wheel alignment, but the vehicle was returned to me after only the front wheels had been aligned. The car immediately began pulling to one side. I returned it and the alignment was repeated, but again only on the front wheels. It was only on a later visit that I was told the rear bolts were seized, meaning the full alignment I had been charged for could not have been completed on either of the previous attempts.

I later had the vehicle inspected by an independent Mercedes specialist, who confirmed that the front steering components had been heated to the point of blue heat‑staining. They advised that heating steering parts is prohibited under Mercedes OEM repair guidance and MOT expectations because it weakens the metal. As a result, the vehicle will fail its next MOT and requires replacement steering components and a further full alignment.

I raised a formal complaint and provided the independent report. Despite giving multiple opportunities to resolve the matter, Halfords remain unwilling to cover the cost of rectifying the damage they have caused.

Based on my experience, if you are not able to self verify that work has been performed to specification, you may wish to take your vehicle elsewhere. My case shows that I was charged for work that could not have been completed, and was told it had been done when it had not.

Sutton Kimpton estate branch

Having been told my another centre to give the Sutton branch a call i did, the leave the line ringing and ringing pick it dont speak, out it down again and repeat several times. So i cut the call off and rung again same thing they leave it for ages then pick it up and put it back down and repeat, so again i cut the call and tried again after yet another near 10mins on my 3rd time somebody answered very rudely, and continued to be rude and grumpy whilst on the call, he really needn't of been so rude as I was polite to him. Clearly his customer service needs working on. I certainly wont be ringing or going to this branch

New Tyre instead of simple Puncture Repair

Slow puncture due to nail - easy fix i thought but Halfords deemed the almost new tyre 'unrepairable' so charged me £300 for a new tyre. Took the 'unrepairable' tyre to Kwik Fit - easy job for them to repair and cost me less than £50 - seems Halfords policy is to sell new tyres rather than repair a simple puncture.

Avoid Halfords Stockton at all costs

Avoid Halfords stockton at all costs. Their "health check" after a routine service flagged the wrong axle entirely — they told me my rear discs and pads needed replacing when it was actually the fronts that were crumbling away (in photo). I trusted their advice and paid over £500 for completely unnecessary work, as advised by another mechanic. When I complained, it took them over a full month for me to get any resolution by going back and forth on the chat service online. When they finally did, they just denied any wrongdoing rather than addressing the obvious error. No accountability, no urgency, no honesty. If you care about your money or your safety, take your car literally anywhere else. Absolutely useless "expert advice"

Unreliable.

Unreliable MOT testers. Three consecutive years their MOT tester has failed to turn up at Halfords Brownhills. And three consecutive years their staff cannot be bothered with the courtesy of a quick call to advise us not to bother turning up.
Instead, they wait until you turn up to tell you that their MOT tester is a waste of space.
Three strikes, you’re out. Never using them for MOT again.

I WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE A 1*!!!!!!

I WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE A 1*!!!!!!

I would strongly advise anyone to avoid Halfords Broadwater, Worthing.
I originally took my car to Halfords because the clutch pedal was intermittently sticking to the floor, which was both concerning and potentially dangerous. After diagnosing the issue, Halfords replaced the clutch at a cost of £624 and assured me that the problem had been resolved.

However, immediately after the repair, the exact same fault continued to occur. The clutch pedal would still intermittently stick down, making the vehicle difficult and unsafe to drive. We returned the car to Halfords on three separate occasions to report that the issue had not been fixed. On each visit, the vehicle was simply taken for a short test drive and returned to us, with no meaningful investigation or repair carried out despite us repeatedly explaining that the fault persisted.

The situation became significantly more serious when the fault occurred while I was driving on a dual carriageway. The clutch failed again, leaving me in a dangerous position and forcing me to switch the engine off completely and restart the vehicle in order to regain control. This should have been a major warning sign that the underlying issue had not been properly diagnosed or repaired.

To make matters worse, today the vehicle has completely broken down due to a hydraulic fluid leak, leaving it with no brake/clutch fluid. Fortunately, this happened in a car park rather than while driving at speed, as the consequences could have been far more serious. Prior to this breakdown, we had specifically asked Halfords to inspect the hydraulic system, including the master cylinder and slave cylinder, because we were concerned that the clutch issue could be related to a hydraulic fault. Despite raising these concerns multiple times, the problem appears to have been overlooked.
The most frustrating part is that we paid £624 for a clutch replacement that did not resolve the original issue. We repeatedly gave Halfords opportunities to investigate and rectify the fault, yet the vehicle was repeatedly returned to us without a proper diagnosis. The fact that the car has now suffered a complete loss of hydraulic fluid raises serious questions about whether the correct checks were carried out in the first place.

This is not simply a case of an inconvenient repair. The ongoing fault created a potentially dangerous driving situation, particularly when it occurred on a dual carriageway, and the eventual complete loss of brake/clutch fluid could have resulted in a much more serious incident had it happened elsewhere.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Halfords Broadwater, Worthing. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the diagnosis, the standard of the repair, and the apparent lack of urgency shown despite repeated reports of a safety-critical fault.
This version is firm, factual, and highlights the safety implications without making claims that you cannot prove. It is well suited for a public review, complaint to management, or escalation under the UK's consumer rights process.

Beware!

Car failed MOT for two front tyres ...however, not in stock. Booked in several days later...two new tyres...mot retest pass. On collecting the key was told by the manager best to have the tracking done sometime as this caused the wear on inside of tyres. He was unable to do it that day. I went online that evening to book a tracking appointment...noticed their online offer...buy two tyres (at a discount price) and get half price tracking. Phoned manager to ask them to goodwill the tracking offer...nope. Utterly disappointed as I'm a club member and have been using them for years. The end.

Halfords Autocentres - too big to care about customers

Awful experience in an autocentre, raised a complaint, promised multiple call backs that never happened. Eventually spoke to someone that sounded like they were going to resolve it for me - but nope, the autocentre management called me a liar, and Halfords closed my case via email with no chance to respond. Seems they are just too big of a company to actually care - but a regular customer lost now.
