I advise against Tutanota (or Tuta, as they go by now). I've had a premium account with them for several years where they charged me around 14 Euros/year; however, without warning they suddenly raised... See more

Mail. Done. Wrong.
There are enough insecurities in this world - email shouldn´t be one of them. Worst experience ever!!! A few months ago I signed up for 2 accounts with paid membership. Wasting a lot of time and energy to move from PROTON and add custom domains etc. Without any changes or further explanation, suddenly i couldn´t login. Error message: "The connection to the server was lost. Please try again." Well, I "tried again" for more than 12 hours. I have now been OFFLINE and unable to reach my 2 inboxes for more than 36 hours. The same happened in February. The message I got from the support was: "We checked our log files and it appears that your IP address was blocked for generating too many connections." Besides the fact that for every hour lost connection, I am losing too - missing out on customer emails and business related important messages - there are several alarming signals in the support response above. Tutanota claims that: "Tutanota does not log IP addresses or track its users. The entire mailbox is encrypted and can only be accessed by the user. Thus, we have no access to any user data."
So when you claim to "not log IP addresses" my questions are:
1)How can you check my log files?
2)How can your log files cause my IP address to be automatically blocked because of "generating too many connections?
Lagging over compatitors
Weird pricing support, lack of features and doubtful PR tactics
JUNK
Doesn't work at all, not accepting valid login, tried to establish email 3 times.
Worst email provider I have ever seen
Worst email provider I have ever seen. Wish I would have never used it because now I am partially stuck with this mess. No auto-forwarding function, no search function, nothing. Daring to question the safety of this provider, as 2/3 of the emails in my inbox are spam, whereas important work emails often land in the spam folder, even if I have the sender saved in my contacts or have marked it as "not spam" before. Absolutely recommend to stay away from it.

I paid my subscription today and despite setting up my account with a password and passphrase I cannot access my account. Every time I seek to change my details it is telling me it does not recognise my details. There seems no way of contacting Tutanoto to resolve this issue. Can anyone assist me? My money has now been deducted and I have written to Tutanota twice and no reply to assist me to access my account. If I do not hear in a further 48 hours I shall seek a refund from my credit card service.

Excellent secure email solution - and I am fussy
Really good. Been sick of my other emails generating endless weird spam and worrying about privacy and scamming, which is only becoming ever more prolific and sinister. I examined various secure email solutions and Tutanota suited me best. Why ? Great pricing, responsive support to my questions, on-going development (a must-have for fast evolving threats), full encryption end to end, tracking mitigation etc. Good friendly interface etc. If we need to know two things it's (1) We need properly secure email (2) It must to be easy to use.
To Good To Be True- Extremely unhelpful
I was elated when I discovered this email service that claimed to not abuse data and to be secure, but I was still sceptical because all providers, email services, and so on make their money from our data, right? But somehow I thought that Tutanota was the lesser of a few evils.
When I created my account, I was asked to provide a secondary email address for verification, which i did not find a problem. If anything, I thought it would help in case I lost my password. So imagine my surprise when I struggled to find their email address , but after spending a few hours doing a search, I finally found one.
The process was the most idiotic I have ever encountered. They advise entering a code for the lost password. How is that possible when I am unable to access the account in the first place--hence why I chose "lost password"--and when I finally hear from someone, he repeats what I have already explained? When I emailed him again, he ghosted me.
So all in all, they will take an additional email address, claiming it will be for verifying details, when in actuality they require the address to snoop and pass on to other marketing companies. They have no intention of assisting if you lose your password, despite the fact that you have details in which you can verify it is your account.
I am absolutely disgusted with the provider, and I use my email to do more or less most things.
Shady, untrusted company. Will take your money and block you off
This is some kind of joke. I wouldn't trust them with my notes let alone with my emails.

I bought a premium account and paid my account. Ever since then I have been unable to access it.
I tried all measures recommended and they all failed, never receiving any replies.
This is causing me great difficulty as I have a neurological disability and do not have a lot of money.
I have also tried to create another free account but that was refused the first time, created a password the 2nd time but was unable to log in ever
Fraudulent "Premium" and Fake Refund Offer
I paid €50 for a Premium Tutanota account in January, never could access it,sent 30 emails asking for help from February to August, most ignored. In July finally I was offered a refund, which I agreed to accept and I wrote DO NOT use PayPal as I no longer have any PayPal. I gave them alternate ways to refund me. Instead they wrote that they "Refunded to my PayPal" which is fraudulent as I have no PayPal. It is too bad they are not any valid choice.
Lost access to my business email for 4…
Lost access to my business email for 4 days with no support during that period. Support took 4 days to reply and fix there broken system, which "supposedly" marked my paid (and unrelated free accounts) as spam suddenly. They would not reply during that 4 days via email or forum, so I was forced to transfer my domain email to my own system.

DO NOT USE
DO NOT USE, come on sheeple wake up! This was never a mail provider focussed on giviing u privacy and anonymity! Any mail client that wont let u sign up or login from tor or on a vpn, has rotten tomatoes in their underpants! They are NOT the gd guys, just more 14 eyes surveilance sandtrap rubbish. DO NOT USE! Couldn't even setup an account
Couldn't even setup an account. They require a password thats too difficult to remember. If I can't remember my password because it's too long then how am I expected to use the email service? If they can't protect me with a simple password then their service is flawed.
Scammers locked me out of my email
Scammers locked me out of my email, and suddenly want me to install some dodgy desktop app. No way in hell.

Paid account was a rip-off…
I opened a paid account at Tutanota several years ago, because their TOS mentioned a 'hand-holding' stipulation for the free account...basically saying you have to access the email account within a certain period (every 3 months? 6 months?) or they close your account. That was the ONLY reason I chose a paid account, as there was no such stipulation mentioned with it. Turns out the paid account was no different than the free account, as they closed it down a good three months before the bill was due, because I did not check the mail soon enough to suit them. I also found out that trying to contact them (to contest the closing or demand a refund) was a wild goose chase...so any sort of customer support was MIA. I would advise anyone thinking of dealing with Tutanota to stick with the free account, so at least they cannot rip you off!
Banded after sending first test email
Banded after sending first test email. reason spam.
I have a paid account with them, went thought the effort of setting up a custom domain. I sent a email labelled 'test' in the subject line with nothing else in the email to another one of my address to test if it worked they disabled my account.. I SENT 1 EMAIL to 1 address. How is this spam?
Banned for "imaginary" spam. Android app defective. Unfriendly costumer support.
Their Android app meant to send notifications without GCM/FCM (Google). Unfortunately, it did not work at all on my GrapheneOS phone. I created a free account for testing. I linked my eBay, Amazon and my online bank to my new Tutanota account. I disabled all battery related restrictions. I did not receive a single notification after receiving an e-mail. Notifications worked only after opening the app. I tried F-Droid then APK mirror version without a success. I did send few e-mails for testing, nothing else. I was more surprised to find later that I cannot log into my mailbox. Here is the message I received from Tutanota - "Thank you for your email. This account was used to send spam emails which violates our terms and conditions, so it was deleted."
Well, I am not sure how they have concluded this. They meant to be "privacy" orientated, but I am in a big doubt now. I would have understood this if they have stats about the number of e-mails sent per day from this account. However, it was not the case and they did not even bother to show me a proof of their claims. Therefore, I do not recommend Tutanota to anyone. They are not privacy friendly. Well, they are not friendly at all. Avoid!
Great, secure and affordable email client
Great, secure and affordable email client, really like the UI, great for business with support for multiple custom domains. Migrated from protonmail and can honestly say that Tutanota is better in many ways.
Nicer UI, lower price and as far as I know haven't yet compromised with privacy and ratted out users to the government. Well recommended for anyone who cares about privacy.
The only drawback is the lack of some sort of imap/smtp support which would allow integration with most support ticketing systems, or to simply allow sending from your business domain. I know the excuse that it would be bad for the security, but perhaps some sort of client service that could run on my own server as a proxy, with imap/smtp could be useful.
